Frequently Asked Questions...
Is therapy right for me?
Seeking out therapy is an individual choice. There are many reasons why people come to therapy. Sometimes it is to deal with long-standing issues, problems with anxiety or depression, and other times it is in response to unexpected life changes. Often, individuals and couples seek help in improving their relationships when they feel what they have been trying at home is not working effectively. Many people seek the advice of a psychologist as they pursue their own personal exploration and growth.
Working with a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges. Therapy can help address many types of issues including depression, anxiety, conflict, grief, ADHD, stress management, and general life transitions. Therapy is “right” for anyone interested in getting the most out of life by meeting with a professional to work toward change by creating greater self-awareness and taking responsibility in challenging themselves to live a more fulfilling life.
Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems, and I should be able to...
Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you have faced, there is nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is most effective for people who have enough self-awareness to realize when they need a little assistance!
How much will it cost?
This is a difficult question to answer because fees are based on the type of visit (initial session, weekly session, phone consultation) the length of the session, and whether or not you have insurance. Check under the Rates and Insurance tab for more information.
Our practice is in-network with a few different insurance companies, namely, Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Aetna, Cigna, and Magellan. Although we are not on all insurance panels, we can provide a statement and receipts suitable for insurance reimbursement as an out-of-network provider as well.
What about finding a good fit?
Our office is equipped with knowledgeable, caring, and dedicated therapists who provide treatment for a wide range of clinical problems. The Clinical Director, Dr. Julie Chicvara, reviews each case before a therapist is assigned with the goal of finding the most fitting provider for the patient. As a practice, we believe that a good fit between patient and doctor is essential for the best treatment results. If at any time the individual or family does not feel their therapist is a good fit, they are encouraged to call the Clinical Director to discuss a change.
